Nonprofit invites advocates to host film screenings to promote human rights and opportunities for girls
AUSTIN, TX — ConnectHER, an Austin-based nonprofit focused on elevating the status of women and girls everywhere, is inviting communities around the world to host Day of the Girl Film Screenings in October to celebrate International Day of the Girl.
Those interested in hosting a screening in their community can visit the ConnectHER website to sign up as a ConnectHER Global Film Ambassador. Once accepted into the program, ambassadors receive programming resources and other support. “We’re looking for anyone who is passionate about film, advocacy, and making a difference for girls around the world,” says Wedad Jaber, operations director at ConnectHER. “If these people reach out to us, we can make sure they are set up for success.”
ConnectHER is currently accepting applications and recommends that hosts start to plan their events at least two to six weeks before International Day of the Girl, October 11, 2019. Film screenings can be scheduled any day between October 1 and 14 to accommodate venue availability and local schedules. There are already more than 25 cities in 17 countries hosting Day of the Girl Film Screenings across North America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
ConnectHER is an Austin-based nonprofit founded to positively impact women’s issues by investing in female leaders making a difference in their community. ConnectHER launched the Girls Impact the World Film Festival in 2012 in collaboration with Harvard College. The film festival has received more than 1,000 original film entries from 20 countries and has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships. Find more information at http://www.connecther.org.
