BVUDZI, which translates to "hair" in Shona, is a short film that explores the story of a young black woman whose femininity has been largely defined by the length and texture of her hair. It tackles the politics of identity and follows the young woman's difficult journey to reclaim her womanhood

About the filmmaker



Inspired by ideas of postcolonialism and feminism, Tapiwa Gambura is a multimedia artist from Harare, Zimbabwe. Playing the role of director, cinematographer and editor, she uses film to dismantle colonial stereotypes of African Womanhood by enhancing their visibility within mainstream media.
